Our student Ahmet Yilmaz is the third in the world!

#WrestleTirana Representing our country proudly at the 2024 World Wrestling Championship, Muş Alparslan University Faculty of Sports Sciences student Ahmet Yılmaz achieved a significant success in Greco-Roman style and won a bronze medal.

Competing in the 82 kg category, Yılmaz defeated his Kyrgyz rival Azat Salidinov 7-2 in the first round. Then he won 5-3 against Belarusian Stanislav Shafarenka and reached the semifinals by defeating European runner-up Russian wrestler Islam Ismailovic Aliev 7-5 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Yılmaz faced European Champion Hungarian wrestler Erik Szivassy, and after a fierce fight, he was unluckily defeated 3-2 and lost his chance to reach the final.

Yılmaz, who faced Azerbaijani Gurban Gurbanov from Azerbaijan, who came from the repechage for the bronze medal, managed to become the third in the world by defeating his opponent 8-1 with a superior performance. Ahmet Yılmaz, who brought the bronze medal to Turkey and our university with this great success, became a source of great pride.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican congratulated our athlete and said, "We are proud of Ahmet Yılmaz's success in the international arena; we wish him continued success."
